St. Bernadettes v’ Thornbury We had two games the first we won comfortably. We had good passages of play throughout, when we passed the ball we were always dangerous. In defence we were also strong. It has been good to see all the boys working well together. In the second game we put out some of our younger players who all gained valuable experience. Thornbury put out a stronger side with one player scoring all of there points??? The boys came back well in the second half pulling a couple of scores back. Overall the progress is good. St Bernadettes v SOUTHMEAD This was our second game of contact rugby, the boys were great. The game went well, we dominated from the start. We were organised from the start, we played as a team which is a pleasure to watch. No mention of individual talent as there was a lot on display. Thank you to all in attendance.. Regards, Nick 8/10/2008 |

St Bernadettes V Avonmouth Avonmouth arrived with two team’s under7s and under 8s. We started with the under sevens, we only had the seven players for the game with no replacements. It was a slow start for our boys having not played for a while but after a couple of minutes the boys turned it on. The defence was god, as the confidence grew the running with the was outstanding. For this game a young player who had his first competitive game at the age of five, dad, was a first team captain. Maybe in a few years we will have another leader? The team won the game comfortable by nine try’s to two. The second game was for the under eights. Again we started strongly, with fine performance throughout; we had a couple of younger boys playing to make up the numbers but still had the edge. It has been a pleasure to be involved with this group’ watching them grows as players. We won the game six try’s to four. As a group of players we have gone all season undefeated, we have a 100% record. Everyone who has supported us throughout the season, we would like to thank you. As a coach in my first season with a great bunch I would like to thank you the players, also appreciation to Mick Cocking for a good introduction into junior rugby. This was our last game for this season. I’m already looking forward to next season. Nick Marshal 21/04/2008. |

Stockwood Sharks V St Bernadettes We had two games against a very young Stockwood side.. The first game we put out all our under sevens, we didn’t have it all our own way sharks ran the ball well and went a couple of try’s up. The boys came back well and ran the ball well coming back into the game and eventually scraping a win 6 – 5 After consulting stockwoods coach we put out some of our more experienced players, again we struggled for any momentum. sharks scored first, then we pulled a couple back, the game was abandoned after one of our players fell awkwardly and dislocated his elbow. We all wish Blakey a speedy recovery. Nick Marshall 02/03/2008 |

Clevedon V St
Bernadettes Another away fixture, today’s opponents Clevedon had a large number. The first game was against the under eights side which started well for the home side with an early try. The boys and girl soon found a rhythm and defended well against a bit of an onslaught. After another score by Clevedon we started finding the space on a pitch a little smaller than we are used to, we pulled back and won the game 6 – 4. The second game was made up of the under sevens plus one. We dominated this game with great performances in attack and support. We ran out comfortable winners 8 – 3 The team have so far a 100% record, Allez les soubirous [ GO THE SAINTS } Nick Marshall (Coach) 11/02/2008

Old Bristolians V St Bernadettes Again two games were played. The first game we had a slow start going a couple of try’s down, we didn’t play to our usual standard. Defence was not as it has been on previous games and our attack was slow.. It was a big effort by the team to come back to win 6-4 The second game we made a number of changes which put us on the front foot. There were lot’s of exchanges but our quick thinking on a couple of restarts put us in front. This was a lead we didn’t give up. Bristolians were a spirited opposition and I would consider us lucky to come away with two wins.. This game we won 7-5. Today’s man of the match chosen for his contribution throughout was Des Nick Marshall (Coach) 25/11/2007

St.Bernadettes V Old Bristolians Before we started the game we had a two minute silence, in honour of remembrance Sunday, 11/11/2007, "both teams acted in an excellent manner". Old Bristolians arrived with a large squad of players, we were well and truly outnumbered. It all started at a great pace both teams having good exchanges in both attack and defence, it wasn’t long before we took the lead, a lead which we didn’t lose in the first game. The handling amongst all the saints team was fantastic, also the support in attack was good. We used our quick runners well to create space for others, something we have been practicing. I made several changes at half time which didn’t cause any upset, we ran out winners 7 – 3. The second game was closer, but after conceding a couple of early tries nobody lost the will and belief, an individual piece of skill and determination by Dan [little R.B] resulting in a try we came storming back. After a rest in the first half of this game our captain returned to the pitch to open up more space. Good inter play between George 1st and Noah resulted in a couple more try’s in our favour. Bristolians came back strong, good defensive performances by Ellie and Des saved us on a number of occasions. We won this game 6 – 4. There are far to many to mention, all involved did themselves and the coaches proud. Man of the match for today’s game was George 2nd [Gap] Nick Marshall (Coach) 11/11/2007

St.Bernadettes Mini’s It was the first game for this group of players against a well organised Stockwood sharks. We played two games, the first was a draw five tries a piece, the second the first taste of victory six to three, a massive achievement for a small group of children who have only been together for a short space of time. All who played showed great skill and balance, a big step forward, a great experience for both myself and all involved.
